Venue address: Rottingdean Beach – East of Brighton Marina
A little east of Brighton Marina, there are beautiful white chalk cliffs and rocky beach of Rottingdean. You may be lucky enough to catch some crabs, sea anemone and other shore life. You can cycle along the undercliff walk to get there, or take a bus to Rottingdean. It is worth checking the tide times before you set off, since the best time to go is when the tide is low; Don’t forget rock pooling equipment, although there are some shops in Rottingdean Village that sell buckets, spades and nets quite cheaply.

Doubt a child would catch any lobsters …
Undercliff walk still closed, I believe, at the Marina end; access would have to be from Roedean.
Hi Douglas, thanks very much for your comments! A friend of mine told me about the lobsters she and her children found when rock pooling at Rottingdean but perhaps that was quite a rare thing to happen, so I’ve amended the post accordingly! And thanks also for the info about the undercliff walk being closed at the Marina end at the moment. I’ve added links to a number of resources including bus time tables so that people can find out what buses they can get directly to Rottingdean beach if they’d rather not risk the undercliff walk access being closed at Marina end.
